What’s your favourite room to design and why?

This is tricky because I love to play with spaces and have an affinity to older homes so love repurposing rooms into something completely unexpected like a storage cupboard into a main bathroom. I guess in that my answer would be bathrooms; I love creating a space that is unique to the home and homeowner, playing with natural textures and materials, light both natural and electrical; it's just fun building these concepts and creating a tailored look that still has a hint of my flair.

I love the idea of my designs being unexpected; so many of the homes I've worked on are literally in the middle of nowhere and its a joy to make these beautiful spaces in homes surrounded by dust, cotton or cattle.

What's your favourite design trend at the moment?

Something that I feel has been slowly creeping back into the zeitgeist is soft drapery. I’ve always loved textiles and am inherently tactile so soft romans, heavy linen curtains off iron rods, I love it!
And Deco, one of my favourite eras...elements of this I feel really will stay present in quality design. I am really interested in applying elements of design that aren't so much trend driven but that will enhance or highlight the design of the home.

What’s one piece of advice for aspiring designers?

Really consider the homes location, style and client rather than following trends, design for longevity not for a trend, make your impact in bespoke timeless style not what's in vogue at the time. Read your client not everyone has the same budget so figure out their dream spaces and do your research to create it on their budget.

How do you approach selecting hardware and fixtures for a project?

Like how I approach the design in general. good quality, timeless design. hardware is the cherry on top, its not an afterthought in my opinion it is the thing that takes the cabinetry from generic to something really beautiful.

Where do you find your favourite sources of design inspiration?

Design magazines/social media and other designers

Can you share a design tip or trick you swear by?

I think you can really create bespoke spaces for clients without them needing to give you too much direction; without sounding silly I look at their personal style, the way they carry themselves and the location of the home and I think if you go with your gut based on these factors you'll create the space they love.

What’s your favourite Hepburn Hardware product?

This one is easy Kew Pulls, I’ve used them across a number of projects, they always look fabulous no matter where we've used them

Minimalist or maximalist?

Minimalist for sure
