Expert Tips with Hepburn Hardware

Expert Tips with Hepburn Hardware

We understand that the details make all the difference when it comes to home design. In our recent learning video series on social media, we covered a variety of topics to help you make informed decisions about your cabinet hardware. Here's a roundup of the essential tips we shared:

1. Knobs for Cupboards, Handles for Drawers

As a general rule of thumb, we recommend using knobs for cupboards and handles for drawers. This creates a visually appealing and functional balance in your space. Consider the daily use of the cabinet and how the hardware feels in your hand when making your selection.

2. Placement Matters

When it comes to installing hardware, placement is crucial. We suggest using a 45-degree angle from the top as a starting point. However, don't be afraid to trust your eye and adjust accordingly based on the cabinet front's profile and overall aesthetic. Finding the sweet spot between precision and visual harmony is key.

3. Handle Length Guidelines

One common question we receive is about choosing the right handle length for cabinets. Here's a quick guide: for cabinets between 450mm - 600mm, opt for a 128mm handle; for 600mm - 800mm, go for the 192mm handle; and for cabinets from 800mm to over a meter, consider the 256mm handle. For integrated fridge freezers, use a larger appliance pull, designed to withstand greater tension with its larger robust screws.

4. Understanding Drill Hole Centres

To demystify some technical jargon, the drill hole centre refers to the distance between the screw holes. Knowing this measurement is crucial for precise installation, ensuring your hardware sits securely on your cabinets.

5. Exploring Colour Options

Our hardware collection boasts a variety of colours, broadly categorized into three sections: silver, gold, and dark. In the silver section, choose from polished nickel, polished chrome, and satin nickel. For gold accents, explore burnished brass (electroplated) or acid-washed brass, which ages and patinas beautifully. The dark section offers options like the matte blackest black (electroplated), oil-rubbed bronze (electroplated), and scorched black, which develops a unique patina over time.

Selecting the right colour not only complements your cabinet but also contributes to the overall aesthetic of your space. All our colour ways match back to some of Australia’s leading tapware companies, so your metal finishes can work seamlessly with each other.

The devil is in the details when it comes to cabinet hardware. By following these guidelines, you can confidently make choices that enhance both the functionality and style of your home. At Hepburn Hardware, we're dedicated to helping you achieve the perfect balance between form and fun
