What are your top 3 tips when planning your build?
- Create a brief outlining essential spaces and your wish list, both written and visual.
- Maximise natural light and energy efficiency by considering your site's aspect and orientation.
- Design a flexible floor plan that suits your current and future lifestyle, with adaptable spaces for changing needs.
What's your best advice when planning a kitchen?
- Consider your kitchen's layout around large appliances like cookers and fridges for optimal workflow.
- Maximise storage and counter space where possible.
- If space allows, a walk-in pantry can provide extra storage and room for appliances.
Three main things to consider when designing a bathroom?
- Keep the space calm and clutter-free with adequate storage, using drawers, cupboards, and mirrored cabinets.
- Choose bathroom finishes that complement the rest of the home.
- Invest in high-quality fixtures for functionality and longevity.
Which materials do you find the most effective in your projects?
- Choose glazing that supports insulation for passive heating and cooling, reducing energy use.
- Waterproofing membranes keep the home watertight.
- Timber is used for both structural framing and design details.
What do you like about Hepburn Hardware products?
We love the classic range of finishes, complementary styles and quality of product.
Our favourite finish is the Acid-wash Brass and it's natural characteristic of aging gracefully over time.
What trends do you see emerging in home building and renovation?
We have seen an increase in demand for secondary dwellings as well as self-contained living zones incorporated into new home designs.
There has also been an increase in demand for 'Energy Management Systems' with new homes including solar, battery installations, etc.
How do you ensure your projects stay on schedule and within budget?
As we handle both design and construction, the build cost and schedule are estimated early.
Selecting finishes and fixtures upfront helps stay on budget. Regular communication with trades and clients ensures the project stays on track.
